About Farrah
On a cold rainy day in the Spring of 1979, Farrah Douglas, her husband, Rick, and their one and half year old son, Kevin, fled Iran at the height of Ayatollah Khomeini's Islamic Revolution. In that frightening and heroic flight out of Iran, Farrah and Rick lost everything they owned and left their loved ones behind. The young family came to the United States with no money and no jobs but they were grateful that they had survived a grave danger and looking forward to a new life in the United States of America.
Today, 32 years later, Farrah Douglas is a councilwoman for the City of Carlsbad and has announced her candidacy for the 76th Assembly District. The district is comprised of Carlsbad, Oceanside, Vista, Encinitas, and Camp Pendleton and is currently represented by Assembly Member Martin Garrick who is not seeking reelection due to term limits. Prior to her election to the council, Farrah served as the Chair of Carlsbad's Planning Commission and the Chair of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, the second largest Chamber in San Diego County. She has received accolades from state and local leaders and Carlsbad residents for her passion, honesty, hard work and intelligent understanding of the issues facing San Diego County.
Farrah is the founder and CEO of a successful business in Carlsbad, CDS Printing, and has enjoyed an impressive record as a political and business leader in North County over the past twenty-one years. As a candidate for City Council in 2010, Farrah received the highest number of votes any council candidate has received in Carlsbad history. She is also the first immigrant to be elected to the council. Currently, Farrah serves as Carlsbad's representative on several regional boards including San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG), the League of California Cities, and the San Diego County Water Authority Board (SDCWA). In these roles, Farrah deals with complex and multi-faceted issues such as the expansion of I-5 Freeway, immigration and border security, the state's current financial instability and the Governor's attempt to raid local governments' coffers.
At the SDCWA Board Farrah had focused on the Seawater Desal Plant. In August her hard work paid off by finalizing an agreement between Carlsbad and SDCWA. She was backed and supported in this effort by Mayor Matt Hall, who in a recent event praised Farrah as a hardworking, intelligent Council Member with a natural talent for bringing people of opposing ideas together and solving their differences. Mayor Hall added, "We need people like Farrah in Sacramento to solve the State's problems."
Farrah has deep roots and understanding of the new 76th State Assembly District. She and her family lived in the City of Oceanside for twenty-five years, where their son attended school in the Vista Unified School District. In 1990 Farrah and her husband, Rick, opened their business in Carlsbad and later relocated there. She has been a part of the fabric of North County for thirty-two years and understands the values and priorities of the region.
Farrah's extensive resume speaks to her devotion and dedication to public service and work in charitable organizations. In 2009 Farrah Douglas was honored by the San Diego Business Journal as the recipient of "Women Who Mean Business" Award. She is also the recipient of the Outstanding Community Service Award from Congressman Darrell Issa and the Recognition Award from Carlsbad Unified School District. Farrah has proven herself as an aggressive campaigner, raising over $125,000 in her last race for City Council and her tenacious grassroots campaign propelled her to earn more votes than any candidate in Carlsbad history.
