That person has to have the acumen to balance the needs of those who reside and/or work within the political boundary. This is no easy task. Residents, business and employees need and want services. This is where pragmatic decisions evolve in serving the public good or the special interests and political free-riders.

In our current business cycle, revenues are declining and costs tend to be more structural due to past promises and commitments. Again, there are very hard choices for the future of California. No, we will not cycle back to prosperity without a clear direction learned from the humility of experience. Farrah Douglas has the knowledge, desire and energy to succeed.

When comparing the candidates, I believe Farrah Douglas would be a dedicated representative and excellent choice for the 76th Assembly and California’s future.

“I have known Farrah Douglas for many years, her business background will be valuable at the state level,” remarked Mayor Abed. “Farrah is a strong leader and a hardworking council member. I am confident that she will be an effective voice for her district and North County in the State Assembly.”

Farrah and Mayor Abed have worked on a variety of issues together, including North County transportation issues through their involvement in SANDAG.

The endorsement of Mayor Abed is the latest in a surge of support for her campaign for the 76th district. Other regional leaders to join Farrah’s campaign include Encinitas Mayor Jerome Stocks, Carlsbad Mayor Pro Tem Ann Kulchin, Carlsbad Councilman Keith Blackburn, Encinitas Councilman Mark Muir, and Solana Beach Mayor Joe Kellejian. Assemblyman Martin Garrick, Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall, County Supervisor Pam Slater-Price, and businessman and civic leader Tom Sudberry have also endorsed Farrah in her campaign for Assembly.

Recent organization endorsements include the Building Industry Association of San Diego County, San Diego County Farm Bureau, Mexican American Business & Professional Association (MABPA), and the National Tax Limitation Committee PAC.

The BIA represents 700 companies and 65,000 men and women who earn their living in residential and commercial building in San Diego County. The association advocates against excessive government regulations and policies that make it harder and more expensive to create jobs in San Diego.

“The Building Industry Association supports Farrah Douglas for State Assembly because we believe as a small business owner, she understands the economic impact of the bad policies coming from Sacramento and what is needed to get our economy moving again,” said Matt Adams, the BIA’s Vice President of Government Affairs. “Farrah has been an impact player on the Carlsbad City Council and we know she will do the same in Sacramento.”

The San Diego County Farm Bureau was established in 1913 to serve the needs of the agriculture community.

In announcing the Bureau’s endorsement, President Noel Stehly noted, “The key factors in giving Farrah Douglas the Farm Bureau endorsement were her grasp of the desperate need to solve the state’s water problems and her willingness to reach across the aisle to build coalitions to get the business of the state done.”

Since 2011 Farrah Douglas has been representing the City of Carlsbad on the San Diego County Water Authority Board of Directors, which is the major water provider for the agriculture community in San Diego County. Farrah has played a key role in bringing Poseidon Seawater Desalination Plant contract to conclusion and paving the road for its construction on the shores of Agua Hedionda Lagoon in Carlsbad. Poseidon Seawater Desalination Plant will provide much needed secure water for the 76th Assembly District cities, farm lands and the region. Farrah’s efforts have been highly and publicly praised by the Mayor of Carlsbad Matt Hall and the other Mayors of North County.

Over the 34 years we have lived in Carlsbad, we’ve had the pleasure of working with many outstanding citizens of Carlsbad and our neighboring cities. We admire those who put service above themselves and do all they can to help others. They are what we call community leaders, people who lead through honesty, hard work and dedication.

Farrah Douglas is one of them. We’ve known Farrah for many years and have watched her give 150 percent to every task, every cause, every position she has been responsible for. We have followed her career as a business owner, Chamber of Commerce president, a Rotarian and a Planning Commissioner.

We expected much from her when she was elected to our City Council and she hasn’t disappointed us. She has been the leader we always believed she was —- dedicated, informed and hard-working.
